Are birthdays overrated?

Yesterday was my birthday. Thank you, happy birthday to you too...wait-

Anyway, yesterday was my birthday and of course, I celebrated with family. All my family that lived far away called me to wish best wishes, my mum baked a cake since we couldn't go out and buy one, my dad decorated the sitting room and my cousin... woke up,- no I'm joking, she helped decorate the cake. Anyway, we were all busy celebrating my birthday, and despite the corona virus, I was actually quite happy that only my family was with me (I don't really like big birthday parties). However, somewhere near the middle i started to question things, and get anxious.

It's my birthday, I'm 12, time has gone quickly, really quickly. I only have 4 years until I have to pass my GCSEs, 6 years until I need to get into a top University, and 10 years until I have to excel in my law career. By then, I should have written at least 5 books, been recognised by people for my intelligence and gotten a few awards in my school. Simple... but I'm scared. What if people laugh at me? Why am I so lazy? Why can't I just get up from my bed and make my parents proud? I'm already 12, what am I doing? I don't have any time. What do I do?...

As you can see from my little thought process there, birthdays can be pretty stressful for me. And don't even get me started on my fear of judgement and disappointing everyone and being noticed for something I could potentially get criticised on...yeah, birthdays are stressful. But, does that mean I don't like them? No. I love my birthday. It's a time for me to celebrate with my family the wonderful phenomenon that is my birth, and we should all celebrate it, because we are all special, unique creatures and we are all contributing (one way or another) to the Earth.

So, somewhere in the day, I pushed all those thought away, and just had faith that as long as I work hard and believe in God, everything will work out. In my opinion, birthdays aren't overrated.

And yes, I have said Happy Birthday to you too, to people that have wished me Happy Birthday.
